About this blog

The release of my debut novel, “Hell City” on Sept. 11, 2012 (the 11th anniversary of 9/11), marked the culmination of all my experience as a writer and artist. According to Kirkus Reviews:

“Shadow has crafted an entertaining mystery that borrows from the best in mystery and noir, while adding a heavy dose of modern paranoia… A striking read that will leave you looking around the corner in fear.”

Currently, my second novel, “Puppet Girl,” is making the rounds among literary agents and my poetry in recent years has been published in some of the top literary magazines and has been a finalist in a number of competitions. In addition, my anti-racist TV pilot “Raceless” was named Best TV Pilot/Screenplay in the thriller category at the NY Screenwriting Awards 2023 and was selected to be part of NY International Screenplay Festival 2023.

My artistic career has ventured from urban poet to Nashville songwriter to recording artist to novelist.

Two decades ago, my career had reached a milestone, with release of my debut album, “King Kong Serenade.” At the time, my songwriting had finally become married to my poetic voice. The work, which received significant critical acclaim, is a rock-poet’s paean to New York City. The lyrics are raw and hard-hitting.

It’s no surprise that Gotham is once again at the center of my literary thriller, “Hell City” and my second novel, “Puppet Girl.” In a sense, the city is a character in all these works.

More about my career as a rock poet can be found on my website: http://allenshadow.com.

For the record, I’ve made my living in journalism and public relations. Born and raised in the Bronx, I currently live in upstate New York.
